In Tamanna’s Own Words
What Do You Want to Be When You Grow Up?
Kind, kind to myself,
I have inflicted a million slabs and bruises upon her.
I have destroyed and killed myself for nothing. I speak to her with venomous branches entwined in my lungs,
which poison my inner voice.
Her mistakes trigger volcanic eruptions in my mind,
whispering that she is worthless.
I anticipate her to be flawless.
Her imperfection brings forth my inner demons,
urging them to emerge and bury her soul.
So yes, when I grow up,
I want to be kind to myself.
I want to love her imperfections,
to understand that not every day is a colorful sunset;
every dark cloud merits love.
For with love’s embrace, bottled emotions find release,
transforming shadows into rainbows.

Break from War
How long do I have to run,
away from my fear?
For how long do I have to
hold back these tears?
For how long am I good,
when I have to pretend
until it’s dark, my friend?
By any means, you must survive,
and when the night shall arrive,
our chest will feel lighter,
and you will no longer be depressed,
at least for a moment or two.
But that’s somewhat enough for you.
Let all the tears flow like a stream.
You pretended to be okay inside,
but you screamed, and the night has
become your friend, to light up
the heaviness you carry in the day.
But in the morning, you will
have to be strong again.
Pretend you are no longer filled
with the pain, but then again,
you should wait for the night.
Until then, my friend,
this is a war you’ll have to fight.
